Need help with fireplace?

The house is almost 20 years old and we have a traditional brick fireplace in the living room(NOT a gas fireplace). It has never been used. We are considering using it this Christmas and through the winter. Thought it would be nice to have a fire for once. What do we need to do to prepare the fireplace/chimney and also what do we need to buy in order to have/start/maintain the fire(besides wood of course lol) any help would be appreciated, Happy Holidays:3
