Theory of Reincarnation of past lives?

One theory on Reincarnation (the one that I find the most interesting when I studied it) was that the soul comes back in a specific form to learn a particular lesson. It can only go on once it learns that lesson. Best explanation I heard was that Reincarnation is having the ability to retake a big test until you finally get it.
